Ten months ago, the Obama White House launched the first internship application of this Administration. Since then, their program has grown to include a mentor and tutor program with nine partner DC high schools, a book drive as part of
Summer of Service, a professional development speaking series, the launch of the
DC Scholar program -- the first internship program for DC high school students-- and a complete online and paper free application process.
Today (December 15, 2009) they launch the application for the Summer 2010 White House Internship Program application. To learn more about the Internship program, the application process, and who is eligible to apply for Internships, visit the
White House Internship Program website.

Income has been sparse the last few months, mostly because we don't have the income from the Freedom Fund Banquet and folks are slow in paying their dues. To help us over the hump, please consider bringing a $5 donation to the Potluck Dinner.

At the November General Membership Meeting, we had a presentation from long-time member Virginia Harrison and local activist Robin Kable about the Carroll County Public Schools Foundation. CCPSF is a non-profit organization unaffiliated (but cooperating) with the Carroll County Public Schools. The organization's mission is "To provide financial support for innovative programs that will benefit our students and enhance the quality of education in Carroll County Public Schools". For more information about CCPSF, find them on the web here.

Your membership might be due now!
A number of folks who have joined over the last few years have not renewed, possibly thinking that their original dues covered them for life.
The only life memberships are Gold, Silbver and Bronze - when they are paid in full. Otherwise, membership fees are due once a year. If you don't have a membership card or a receipt that shows that you have paid your membership dues within the last year - you are not a member!
We need you and we need your support. The branch cannot function in the critical areas of education, legal redress, and political without support from the community. If you have any question about membership dues, please contact the membership Committee chair, John Lewis (jjlewis2@msn.com) and get back on the roles!
